Undergraduate Study

Container

To me, Murray Edwards means opportunity. It is a place where I am stretched and pushed academically but also given the chance to develop my own creative interests with the help of the College. I have been able to host a variety of events that align with my creative goals, and it’s Medwards that has facilitated a platform for me to do this.

Joy

At Murray Edwards College, you receive a brilliant Cambridge University education with unrivalled levels of support in your studies, all in a warm and welcoming community.

Every student is offered academic, personal and careers support through our unique Gateway programme to ensure they succeed from the start, thrive throughout their studies and gain opportunities to explore future professions. We want you to achieve academically, have a great time in Cambridge and leave filled with confidence.

Accommodation

We were founded in the middle of the last century, by women who defined for themselves what a woman should be and set no limits on their potential. Our College is beautiful – an iconic 1960s building, light and airy, and set in fabulous gardens which you’re free to enjoy at any time.

Our students love our accommodation: first years live in Pearl House, a comfortable modern building with spacious, all en suite rooms and large shared kitchens equipped with freezers and plenty of space to cook and eat together. You can also eat in our famous Dome dining hall – we cater for a range of diets and our weekend brunches are renowned as among the best in Cambridge.

We work closely with our students on events and popular themed formal dinners that reflect our distinctive forward-looking twist on Cambridge traditions.

Facilities

Our beautiful library is well-stocked and comfortable, and our librarians offer not only academic support but a great range of wellbeing activities, from crafts to yoga.

We’re also home to the Women’s Art Collection, the biggest collection of women’s art in Europe, whose hundreds of works are spread throughout our buildings.

Our new Art Café with its roof terrace overlooking the stunning Fountain Court is a peaceful social/study space by day and welcoming bar in the evenings.

Location and student life

While you are with us, no matter where you joined us from, we want you to feel the College and Cambridge are yours.

So you can make the most of every opportunity, we run classes to help students adjust to new ways of learning and studying, and we encourage you to join our active student societies including our Boat Club, football and rugby teams.

An extensive range of support is always available to you, from our active wellbeing service, in-house counsellor and College nurse to our friendly porters, on site 24 hours a day.

We offer a range of opportunities to earn during term time, such as school outreach events with the College's student ambassador scheme.

We are a women’s College and proud of it, but people of all genders are welcome to stay. We also have a mixed gender fellowship. Around three quarters of our UK undergraduates come from state schools: we are a radical, diverse community and open to all who identify as women. We are not like any other College. Please come and see for yourself.
