Undergraduate Study

The aim of this summer school is to give a flavour of what it is like to study Physics at university - including taking notes in lectures, solving problems and doing experiments. There is a five-lecture course entitled 'Mechanics and Special Relativity', which is a shortened version of a very similar set of lectures given to our first-year students.  During the lecture sessions students will work through questions to strengthen their understanding of these topics. Other physics lectures of more general interest will also be available - for example topics from Earth Sciences and High Energy Physics.

Towards the end of the week students will have a Cambridge 'supervision' (i.e. tutorial), where they go over their attempts at the course problems with an experienced supervisor. The practical sessions (experiments) are modelled on those undertaken by our first-year undergraduates.

Students who are offered places on the physics Summer School will be expected to complete some preparation work (practice problem solving) on isaacphysics.org (FREE) before the event.  This preparation work is designed to ensure that participants are fluent in core school topics used in the summer school - helping students to get the most out of the experience.  The isaacphysics.org platform will also be used to support their learning throughout the summer school.
