Undergraduate Study

The University of Cambridge is carefully monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak; we recognise that its impact may create uncertainty for offer holders and prospective students.

For UK Offer Holders

It has been announced that UK schools will close until further notice, and that summer examinations in England, Scotland and Wales will not be taking place.

We are awaiting further advice from the Department for Education, and are consulting with UCAS and other sector bodies. Please be assured that we are working hard to minimise the impact this has on admissions.  As soon as we have clarity on the position we will advise all offer holders accordingly - further information will be provided on this web page.

For EU and Overseas Offer Holders

We are aware that students from overseas may have already experienced severe disruption to teaching and potentially to examinations.  You may also be having difficulty taking English Language tests. We recommend you check the following websites regularly for updates on English language test centres: IELTS updates, TOEFL updates.

For all Offer Holders

To enable us to treat all applicants equitably, we would be grateful if you could keep a log of any disruption (which might include, but is not limited to, periods of self-isolation, disruptive teacher absences, dates of school closures and what alternatives (if any) are provided). We do not need this information now, but it will be more accurate if you start to systematically record it; please be prepared to send it to us later in the summer, once the full extent of disruption is known.

We strongly encourage all offer holders to make use of our free online study resources which can be accessed through our HE Plus website.

Arrangements for STEP (mainly for Mathematics offer holders) are still under consideration.

Meanwhile, if you are holding an offer that requires STEP, our online STEP Support Programme resources for individual self-study are free and open to all: maths.org/step

Furthermore, MEI has made additional resources available for both teachers and students (remote teaching and self-study) at http://mei.org.uk/closure-support

We also encourage all offer holders to pay close attention to the guidance from Public Health England and/or issued by the authorities in their home country.

The University also has a dedicated page: www.cam.ac.uk/notices/news/coronavirus-latest-guidance.

We fully understand that this is an anxious time for all of you, but please be assured that we are working extremely hard on contingency planning and we will keep you informed.  We are receiving a very high volume of enquiries – we kindly ask that you continue to refer to this web page for up to date information, rather than contacting the Colleges or Cambridge Admissions Office directly.

We wish you, your peers, your schools and your families the very best during this difficult period.

Outreach events and open days

In light of the latest advice about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all outreach activities and events organised by Cambridge Admissions Office have been cancelled until the end of August 2020.

We are committed to providing prospective applicants with information about the collegiate University, its courses, and the admissions process. We are looking at opportunities we can offer virtually, as well as the possibility of running some events later in the year. We will update the website with further information once this is available and, for specific widening participation programmes, make direct contact with schools and students affected. For information about particular events and alternative activity, please check the relevant events and open days webpage or contact the event organiser for the most up-to-date information.

We apologise for the inconvenience and any disappointment that this may have caused and we hope to be able to welcome you to an event in Cambridge in the future.
