Undergraduate Study

The BA in Education is a rich, varied and fascinating study of humanity. It intersects with a wide range of subjects such as drama, history, philosophy, sociology, economics, politics, English, and more. Students on our course consider a multitude of pertinent questions around social justice, inequality, technology, the role of institutions, and how all of these impact the human experience of learning.

The Faculty of Education is hosting a series of taster lectures for potential students to get a flavour of the breadth and variety of the degree.

Rebel Without a Course

The taster session will consider why the arts are struggling for recognition in schools and how they are caught in the double bind of being both complicit and rebellious within the educational system.

This lecture will be delivered by Joel Chalfen. He is a teaching associate in Drama at the Faculty of Education and a Director of Studies at Homerton College. He began my career as a theatre actor and director, having trained with Jacques Lecoq in Paris and at LAMDA. He has also completed an MA in Theatre and Development and a PhD looking at the politics of memory, heritage and our encounters with the past.

He joined the Faculty in 2013 primarily to convene the Drama programme on the undergraduate degree.
