Are you an organist, a singer, chorister or instrumentalist of a very high standard? If you’d like to combine specialist musical experience with a Cambridge degree, you should consider applying for one of our Music Awards.

Choral Awards

Choral Awards are scholarships awarded to a student in a College chapel choir.

The awards differ from College to College. Typically, you may receive:

  • a small financial award each year
  • financial support for singing lessons
  • subsidised meals and choir tours

Choral Award-holders must sing in their College chapel choir. Extra responsibilities vary from College to College.

Find out more about choral awards (Centre for Music Performance website).

Organ Awards

Organ Award holders are selected by Colleges to play the organ for chapel services. This offers talented organists an unparalleled opportunity to develop their skills.

Award holders also direct or assist in the work of the choir. The chapel music environment in Cambridge is very varied. You'll be able to work in chapel contexts as well as on external activities like foreign tours, concerts, broadcasts and recordings.

Awards vary from College to College, but all include a small financial award.

Instrumental Awards Scheme

The Instrumental Awards Scheme helps gifted musicians to reach a high standard of performance in chamber music.

Selected students are given the award for a year. They receive:

  • a small financial award
  • professional coaching of their ensemble
  • masterclasses
  • recital opportunities
  • a subsidy for instrumental lessons
