Government loans are available for eligible Home fee status students. These loans cover tuition fees and contribute towards living costs.
Additional government funding is available for some students to support with specific circumstances.
Work out what funding you'll get
All eligible Home fee students can get a loan to cover the full cost of their tuition fees. For students starting in 2027 and funded through Student Finance England, this will be through the Lifelong learning entitlement (Gov.uk website).
The amount of government loan you receive for your living costs will depend on your household income. The lower your household income, the higher the loan you will receive.
Support arrangements vary according to which part of the UK you normally live in. Check your region's student finance agency for full details.
If you don't receive a full loan, the government expects your household to give you financial support. Check our family contribution page for further guidance.
Cambridge also offers significant financial support to help students from lower income backgrounds. Find out more about bursaries and scholarships at Cambridge.
Applying for student finance
You should apply for financial support as early as possible.
Applications for government support open early in 2027. You don't need a confirmed place at a university to apply.
Visit your regional student finance agency website for the most up-to-date information and guidance.
If you become a Cambridge student, we will use your loan application to consider you for some Cambridge financial support.
We understand that some Muslim students and students of other faiths may be put off taking out student loans, due to the interest payment system. If you are concerned about this, our guidance on student loans and Sharia law may help.
Additional support
You may be eligible for additional funding to support with particular circumstances and needs. For example:
- Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs)
- Childcare Grant
- Parents’ Learning Allowance
- Adult Dependants’ Grant
Check your region's student finance agency website for details and eligibility criteria.
