The University conducts a number of admissions interviews overseas and for 2018 entry (or deferred entry in 2019) these will take place in Canada (Toronto), China (Shanghai), Hong Kong, India (Mumbai), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and Singapore.

Please note the following restrictions:

  • if interviews are held in your home or school country, you can only request an interview in that country or in Cambridge (with the exception of Canada, see below). You're strongly encouraged to apply for an interview in your home or school country - there's no advantage to being interviewed in Cambridge. If you're an Architecture, Classics, History of Art, or Music applicant, you're advised to apply to be considered for an interview in Cambridge; however, please check the information on the country-specific page for relevant interview arrangements before submitting your application. If in doubt, please contact the appropriate overseas interview team for further guidance (contact details for each overseas interview team can be found on each country specific page)
  • interviews in Canada – which will take place in Toronto during 27-29 November 2017 – are open to all applicants but those who are resident or at school/university in Canada or who are Canadian nationals resident elsewhere will be given priority
  • interviews in Hong Kong are only available to applicants who are domiciled, permanently resident or at school/university in the special administrative region of Hong Kong
  • interviews in India – which will take place in Mumbai during 20-21 November 2017 – are open to all applicants but those who are resident or at school/university in India or who are Indian nationals resident elsewhere will be given priority

Applicants from other Asian countries (such as Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Taipei, Thailand and the Maldives), Australia and New Zealand are invited to apply to be considered for interview either in Singapore or in Cambridge.

In addition to the overseas interviews, the University conducts a remote interview scheme for applicants from the USA and surrounding countries – details about this scheme can be found on the USA information page.

Applicants who are eligible to be interviewed in a country listed above are strongly advised to apply by the appropriate deadline (see below) and request an interview in that country. There is no advantage to being interviewed in Cambridge.

A reasonable standard in spoken English is required at the time of interview. Please check our English language requirements page.

Overseas interviewers are academic experts with a broad range of subject expertise and experience in admissions who are appointed by the Colleges of the University of Cambridge to interview applicants on their behalf. Many of them are current or recent Admissions Tutors and Senior Tutors with considerable experience in comparing fields of applicants across subjects. For more information on interviews see our main Interviews pages.

If you're selected for an interview outside the UK, you'll be required to pay an interview fee (the fee for overseas interviews to be held in 2017 will be £150). Further information on this payment and when to pay it will then be provided in the correspondence inviting you to attend an interview.

If you'd like to be considered for interview overseas, both your COPA and UCAS application must be submitted by the appropriate date, as below. If you're invited to attend an interview, the invitation will include specific arrangements (date, time, location etc).

Admissions assessments

All applicants interviewed overseas will be required to take a written admissions assessment, either pre-interview or at-interview.

For 2018 entry, the pre-interview written assessments will be taken on 2 November 2017 in the UK. If you'll be taking a pre-interview written assessment overseas, you must check the Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing website as the scheduled start times for international centres may vary.

Please note that for some overseas interview locations, 'pre-interview' assessments may take place after your interview. In this situation, your written assessment will still be considered by your Cambridge College along with your overseas interview report.

For candidates interviewed overseas, 'at-interview' written assessments will usually take place in the same week as interviews in that country. Arrangements for at-interview written assessments are normally supplied to shortlisted applicants together with details of their interview. For Maths applicants interviewed overseas, a written Maths assessment will be administered by the overseas interviewing team. Your written assessment will then be made available to the Cambridge College, along with your overseas interview report.

Please check the information for EU/overseas applicants sections on the pre-interview assessments or at-interview assessments pages for more information.
