The University conducts a number of admissions interviews overseas and for 2017 entry (or deferred entry in 2018) these will take place in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Please note that the University no longer conducts overseas interviews in Australia.
Please note the following restrictions:
- if interviews are held in your home or school country, you can only request an interview in that country or in Cambridge. You are strongly encouraged to apply for an interview in your home or school country; there is no advantage to being interviewed in Cambridge. Applicants for Architecture, History of Art, Classics and Music are advised to apply to be considered for an interview in Cambridge – however, please check our country specific publications for specific interview arrangements prior to submitting your application. If in doubt, please contact the appropriate overseas interview team for further guidance. Contact details for each overseas interview team can be found at the bottom of each country specific publication
- interviews in Canada are only available to applicants who are resident or at school/university in Canada or who are Canadian nationals resident elsewhere
- interviews in Hong Kong are only available to applicants who are domiciled, permanently resident or at school/university in the special administrative region of Hong Kong
Applicants from other Asian countries (such as Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Taipei, Thailand and the Maldives), Australia, and New Zealand are invited to apply to be considered for interview either in Singapore or in Cambridge.
All applicants interviewed overseas will still be expected to take a written admissions assessment, either pre-interview or at-interview. For 2017 entry, the pre-interview written assessments will be taken on 2 November 2016 in the UK. Applicants taking the pre-interview written assessments overseas must check the Admissions Testing Service website as the scheduled start times for international centres may vary. Please note that for some overseas interview locations, 'pre-interview' assessments may take place after your interview. In this situation, your written assessment will still be considered by your Cambridge College along with your overseas interview report. For candidates interviewed overseas, at-interview written assessments will usually take place in the same week as interviews in that country. Details of at-interview written assessments are normally supplied to shortlisted applicants together with details of their interview. For Maths applicants interviewed overseas, a written Maths assessment will be administered by the overseas interviewing team. Computer Science applicants interviewed overseas will sit a written Maths assessment administered by the overseas interview team instead of the CSAT. These assessments will then be made available to the Cambridge College along with the overseas interview report. Please check the Information for EU/Overseas applicants sections on the pre-interview or at-interview pages for more information.
Applicants who are eligible to be interviewed in a country listed above are strongly advised to apply by the appropriate deadline (see below) and request an interview in that country. There is no advantage to being interviewed in Cambridge.
A reasonable standard in spoken English is required at the time of interview. Please check our English language requirements page.
Overseas interviewers are academic experts with a broad range of subject expertise and experience in admissions who are appointed by the Colleges of the University of Cambridge to interview applicants on their behalf. Many of them are current or recent Admissions Tutors and Senior Tutors with considerable experience in comparing fields of applicants across subjects. For more information on interviews see our main Interviews pages.
If you are selected for an interview outside the UK, you will be required to pay an interview fee of £140. Further information on this payment and when to pay it will be provided in the correspondence inviting you to attend an interview.
