Undergraduate Study

Please note: This site currently contains information for those who applied for 2016 entry. Information for 2017 entry will be available in March.

Application deadline

The University of Cambridge application deadline for 2016 entry and deferred entry in 2017 has now passed except for mature students applying for certain subjects.

The four mature Colleges (Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's and Wolfson) consider mature and affiliate applications for some subjects as part of a second application round, the deadline for which is 1 March 2016. For more information please see Mature student applications.

Five simple steps

If you want to apply to Cambridge, the process is much the same as that for other universities. However, at Cambridge the process starts earlier to allow time for all of the application information to be gathered and considered. This section guides you through the process.

1. Course

You’re going to be studying the subject to a very high level for several years so make sure you choose a course you’re personally interested in and will really enjoy studying!

2. College

Where would you like to live when you’re here? You can either indicate if you have a preference College or make an open application.

3. Apply

Submit your UCAS application online by 15 October, 18:00 (UK time) – our institution code is CAM C05.

Shortly after submitting your UCAS application, you will be asked via email to complete an online Supplementary Application Questionnaire (SAQ) – a few extra questions requesting information not included in your UCAS application which we find helpful. To make a valid application to the University of Cambridge, you must submit your SAQ by the deadline set. In the majority of cases this deadline will be 12pm noon (UK time) on 22 October 2015

You also need to submit the Cambridge Online Preliminary Application (COPA) if you’re living/attending school/college outside the EU at the time of application and/or applying for an Organ Scholarship. There is also an additional application form if you're applying for the Graduate Course in Medicine.

Irrespective of where you are from, you may be required to submit a transcript depending on the qualifications you are taking/have taken. Please find more information about our transcript requirements.

Other application deadlines apply for those wishing to be interviewed in particular overseas countries, and for some mature applicants.

It’s not possible to apply to both the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford in the same year.

4. Interview

Everyone with a realistic chance of being offered a place is invited to attend an interview. That’s more than 80 per cent of applicants each year.

5. Decision

We’ll advise you of our decision before the end of January.
