The BMAT tests your ability to apply scientific and mathematical knowledge, as well as your problem solving and communication skills.

You need to take the BMAT if you are applying to:

  • Medicine (Standard course A100)

You must be registered for the BMAT in advance. You will take the test on 18 October 2023.

How to register for the BMAT

You need to register for the Medicine admissions assessment by 29 September 2023.

If you are not registered on time, you will not be able to take the test and your application to Cambridge will not be considered.

You will need to ask your test centre (the place you take the test, usually your school or College) to register you for the assessment. Make sure you ask them to do this well in advance so that they have enough time to meet the relevant deadlines.

Learn how to register on the BMAT website.

BMAT Costs

There is an entry fee for the BMAT.

If you are a UK student and are concerned about the cost, financial support may be available.

Check the BMAT website for details of costs.

How to prepare for the BMAT

Familiarise yourself with the format of the test and have a go at some specimen or past papers, restricting yourself to the time that you would have during a real test. This will help you to understand what is expected and prepare you to approach questions in an exam environment.

Access specimen and past papers on the BMAT website.

We don’t expect you to get every question right – you can learn more about how your performance fits into the rest of your application on the admissions assessment page.
