Were I to choose again, I wouldn’t apply anywhere else. There’s a togetherness like at no other College. Always a friendly face and staff are approachable. One of the unrecognised gems of Cambridge Colleges.

Girton College sits in beautiful grounds of more than 50 acres, just outside the city centre. Our abundant green spaces provide opportunities for woodland walks, fresh air and spotting wildlife. Girton is truly an oasis of calm, offering respite from the intensity of Cambridge life while still being a short bus or cycle ride from buzzing central Cambridge.

Girton College was founded in 1869 as the first residential institution for women’s higher education in the UK. This pioneering history lives on today in Girton’s open and inclusive culture.

At Girton, you will find the top-tier tuition, pastoral support and exceptional facilities you need to get the most out of your Cambridge experience. Although we are one of the larger Cambridge Colleges, we offer a friendly, tight-knit community where everyone has the space to thrive and find their niche.

Accommodation

When you study at Girton, you are guaranteed accommodation for all three years of your studies.

Most of our undergraduates, including first years, are housed in our beautiful, red brick building on the main College site in a variety of accommodation. This ranges from Victorian rooms in the original building, to the modern rooms in Ash Court.

In your second year you have the option to take an en suite room in the recently built Swirles Court (located in Eddington between the College and city centre). Eddington is a 15-minute walk or 5-minute cycle from Girton. There you have access to a range of bars and restaurants, green spaces and a large supermarket.

All rooms have internet connection.

Facilities

At Girton, you can experience all that's great about being at Cambridge.

The College has some of the best on-site sporting and leisure facilities that Cambridge has to offer, including:

  • football, rugby and cricket pitches
  • squash and basketball courts
  • a well-equipped gym
  • an indoor heated swimming pool

We have a stunning, atmospheric and well-equipped library (including computer facilities), and a range of flexible study spaces to suit all styles of working.

We offer students plenty of flexibility for meals, with daily options for vegetarians and vegans. You can use our popular self-service cafeteria, grab a bite to eat in our café and bar or, if you want to cook for yourself, every corridor has a communal kitchen.
