Experience Christ's Summer School in August 2024 will provide attendees with the opportunity to experience the social and community aspects of college life at Cambridge as well as a sense of the academic challenge that studying at Cambridge entails. This event is entirely free, including accommodation, meals, and travel. The deadline to apply is 6pm on Monday 8 July.
This event will take place in Cambridge from Sunday 18 August to Wednesday 21 August (finishing at lunchtime). Those selected to attend must be available for the entire event (you cannot only attend part of it or leave early).
Subjects available
This event will cover a range of subject areas: Architecture, Design, Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology, Engineering, Land Economy, Law, Geography, Psychological and Behavioural Studies, and Education (noting some content can overlap with related subjects). You will be required to be taking certain subjects at A-Level, Advanced Higher or Higher Level in the International Baccalaureate depending on which of these you are interested in. Please see the event page for details.
Attendees will attend up to three academic taster sessions during the programme; you can attend any combination of sessions as best fits your interests and so long as you're taking a suitable combination of subjects/qualifications for that course at Christ’s, even if it's not your intended course to study here (e.g. if you're interested in Law you can also attend Land Economy sessions, or Architecture if interested in Engineering).
The programme will also include information, advice and guidance on applying to Cambridge, thinking about careers beyond university, student life and the courses available.
Applicants/nominees must meet the eligibility criteria (all of a-e):
(a) currently (academic year 2023-24) in Year 12 in England/Wales, Year 13 in Northern Ireland or S5 in Scotland
(b) currently studying at a state-maintained school in the UK - this means schools that do not charge fees. Students attending independent schools on a bursary are not eligible for this event.
(c) achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade 8, 9 or A* (England, Wales, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland), or a majority of National 5s at grade A (Scotland)
(d) on track to achieve the necessary grades in suitable qualifications to study their subject/course of interest and the subject areas of sessions they might be interested in attending at Christ's. See more below for details.
(e) you are available for the full duration of 18-21 August inclusive. You will not be able to join/leave the event early, and you are expected to attend all scheduled sessions during the event. This also means if you already have plans (a different event, a holiday, festival etc) on these dates - you won't be able to do both.
Applications are OPEN. Students may apply themselves or they can be nominated by a teacher. Full details on criteria (including the subjects you are expected to be studying based on your preferred courses) and applying/nominating is available on the Experience Christ’s webpage here. This is also where you will find the link for the application /nomination form. Please read this page carefully before you proceed with an application or nomination.
