Our flagship virtual outreach programme, the Lucy Cavendish College Academic Enrichment Programme, will provide over 700 high-achieving Year 12 (S5 – Scotland, Y13 – N.I.) state school students with comprehensive supplementary academic support tailored to their stage in the curriculum, giving them the best chance of achieving their full potential.
The programme will consist of weekly sessions from November 2022 to March 2023. This will include:
- academic enrichment classes, supplementing students’ subject-specific skills and knowledge while offering them the opportunity to think more seriously about possible degree routes
- peer discussion groups, where students will have the opportunity to discuss their interests with peers and build their academic confidence
- university readiness sessions, which will provide information and guidance on how to make competitive applications to Cambridge and other highly selective universities
- a supracurricular exploration project, through which students can explore their subject interests and strengthen their university applications
Following last year’s pilot programme, 86% of participants agree that their subject-specific knowledge and skills were strengthened, and 98% of participants feel confident that they now know how to make a competitive application to Cambridge and other top universities.
- “The AEP has been really useful in my current studies at school as I can apply the knowledge I have gained from sessions to the subjects I am taking.”
- “I've really enjoyed the subject-specific sessions - the topics have been really interesting, and it's been a great way to start exploring subjects beyond my A levels, as I previously didn't know where to start with this!”
- “I feel more at ease about applying to Cambridge, as the admissions process has been explained in depth and many myths about Cambridge have been dispelled”
