The Shadowing Scheme is a free university access scheme designed by current Cambridge undergraduates and run by the Cambridge Students' Union (Cambridge SU). The Scheme is for UK students in their penultimate year of secondary school (Year 12 England and Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland or S5 Scotland), with little family history of attending University, who go to schools where few people progress to University.
In February 2025, selected participants will get to come to Cambridge and 'shadow' an undergraduate mentor who is studying a subject they are interested in including: attending lectures, staying in student accommodation, meeting lots of current students at a range of events and activities, and getting advice on applying to Cambridge from staff and students.
The residential aspect of the scheme will last for three days, and when you apply you'll get to choose between three possible weeks to attend. The dates for the 2025 Scheme are:
- Sunday 2nd to Tuesday 4th February 2025
- Sunday 9th to Tuesday 11th February 2025
- Sunday 16th to Tuesday 18th February 2025
The Scheme is free to all Shadows, including accommodation, meals and travel. You'll also receive 1-1 mentoring through a safe online platform before and after the Scheme.
Applications close on the 10th of October and you can find more information and how to apply here.
