This year, Emmanuel, Queen’s, St Catharine’s, Trinity Hall, Magdalene & Peterhouse College are launching a new Outreach programme. The programme is for Year 11 UK students (S4 / Y12 NI) who identify as from an ethnic or racial (ERM) minority and will include a day visit to Cambridge in October, followed by a series of online sessions after Christmas focusing on study skills, A-Level choices, and life at the University of Cambridge.
Participants will also have the opportunity to meet current Cambridge students who identify as from an ERM background.
To apply, students must fulfil all the following criteria:
- Must be attending a state school / College / 6th Form College / Academy
- Identify as being from an ethnic minority that is under-represented at the University of Cambridge (including but not limited to: any Black background, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Roma, Gypsy or Traveller, Arab).
- On track to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-7 (A*-A) C
- Currently in Year 11 (England and Wales), S4 (Scotland) or Year 12 (Northern Ireland)
This programme has limited availability and other widening participation criteria will apply in the selection process, such as:
- Are in care or are care-experienced;
- Are eligible for Free School Meals or pupil premium;
- Is a young carer;
- Would be the first generation in their family to go to University.
Applicants will be asked to provide a teacher’s contact details to allow for verification of the information they provide.
