Undergraduate Study

The annual Davidson Inventors Challenge (DIC) 2026 is now open for registrations from Y11 and 12 students in the UK.

DIC is a school outreach and widening initiative initially set up in 2020 as a collaboration between the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge, and the Association of Science Technology and Innovation (ASTI) in Malaysia. It was launched in honour to the late Emeritus Professor John Davidson, and it is supported by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) with some of its professional members mentoring the student teams.

The competition, aimed at Year 11 and 12 students interested in STEM, is focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and finding solutions to address global challenges in sustainability and healthcare. Over the duration on the competition, the participating students will be working in small teams with the support of our mentors. Participating teams will choose a challenge/ problem to work on and come up with a potential sustainable and innovative solution working towards the SDG selected. They will also develop valuable skills like problem-solving, process and products design, and critical thinking abilities.

Applications from state schools and students from underrepresented backgrounds. especially welcome and encouraged.
