Undergraduate Study

Frequently asked questions about the University of Cambridge Subject Masterclasses.

What are Subject Masterclasses?

The Masterclasses provide students with an opportunity to explore topics of interest beyond what is covered within the A Level syllabus, and offer the chance to experience typical undergraduate teaching at Cambridge.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Booking is essential.

We are unable to take bookings over the phone, so please use the booking links on the Masterclasses webpage. We are also unable to take bookings on the day of the event, so please ensure you book your place ahead of attending. If you arrive on the day without a booking we will be unable to permit you into the event.

Do I qualify for a funded place?

Funded places are available for:

  • Anyone eligible for Free School Meals
  • Children in Care

If you're eligible and would like to apply for a funded place please submit your details on the funded place section of our website to receive an application form. Please note that funded place requests will only be accepted providing there are spaces available on the event.

I am a teacher. Can I book places for a group of year 12 students onto the Masterclass?

Unfortunately we do not accept group bookings. However students are welcome to book a place individually.

I am currently in Year 11; can I attend Subject Masterclasses?

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate younger year groups. The Subject Masterclass events are exclusively for Year 12 (or equivalent) students thinking of applying to Cambridge for the next academic year.

The University organises a number of other events throughout the year including some aimed specifically at students in Years 9, 10 and 11. Further details can be found under the Events tab.

The subject I am interested in studying is not running a Masterclass, what shall I do?

The subjects offering Masterclasses are continually being updated; we recommend you check back regularly. You can also register interest for upcoming Masterclasses to receive email notifications if your subject becomes available.

Can I join a waiting list for a Masterclass that is already full booked?

No. Unfortunately we do not operate waiting lists for Subject Masterclasses.

Will I receive a ticket?

Yes. You will receive a QR code when your booking is confirmed and this is your ticket for the event. Please bring this with you on the day, either printed out or on your phone.

I have booked a place but have not received my ticket, what shall I do?

In the first instance please check your email address that you used when booking your place, along with any junk mail folders. If you still cannot find a ticket please contact the Masterclass Team at caoevents@admin.cam.ac.uk
